The Discovery College is delighted to be open every week offering Drop in Peer support for people living with mental illness, poor mental wellbeing, addiction or substance use issues. The Wellington Centre in Wick is a safe, non-judgemental space where you can someone to listen to you who understands how difficult it can be to find help.
Offering peer support places lived experience at the core of the help we provide. Our trained Peer Supporters use their personal experiences with mental health conditions, trauma, or recovery to connect with and support others going through similar struggles. Unlike clinical approaches, peer support is more reciprocal. Both people can benefit from the relationship and by showing that recovery is possible, peers can help others build confidence, self-advocacy skills, and resilience.
Whilst peer support doesn’t replace therapy, medication, or professional treatment we know that emotional, social, and practical support for people can help with recovery by building connection, hope and belonging.
